Mothers Against Gun Violence/ MAGV
Serving Milwaukee by elevating the voices of survivors of gun violence through art and advocacy

My Mission
The mission of Mothers Against Gun Violence located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is to amplify the voices of gun violence survivors through the arts and advocacy. I’ve been privileged to share their powerful stories through theater, radio, publications, television, art exhibits, and the impactful interactive bus shelter murals. My hope is that these stories inspire action, fostering a community dedicated to reducing and ultimately ending gun violence.
These creative platforms not only honor the lives lost and those forever changed by gun violence but also serve as a catalyst for dialogue and change. By engaging the community in these narratives, we aim to break the cycle of violence and foster a culture of compassion and empathy. My hope is that these stories inspire action, uniting individuals and organizations to work towards reducing and ultimately ending gun violence.
In addition to storytelling, MAGV’s efforts extend to organizing community events, workshops, and educational programs that empower youth and families to advocate for policy changes. By partnering with local artists, educators, media and activists, we create opportunities for creative expression and healing. We believe that by uplifting these voices and experiences, we can inspire policymakers and community leaders to implement meaningful reforms that address gun violence at its core. Our ultimate goal is to create a future where every individual feels safe and supported within their community.
Furthermore, we collaborate with mental health professionals to provide counseling and support services for those affected by gun violence. We also engage in policy advocacy at the local and national levels, pushing for common-sense gun legislation and resources for violence prevention programs. Through these comprehensive efforts, we aim to foster resilience and unity within our community, ensuring that no voice goes unheard and no life is forgotten.
Voices of Gun Violence is a living archive that captures the raw, unfiltered experiences of those affected by gun violence. This powerful academic and community collaboration seeks to provide a safe space for survivors and their families to share their journeys, promoting healing, understanding, and community action. Through storytelling, we bridge the gap between personal trauma and public awareness, empowering communities to address the root causes of violence. By amplifying these voices, we aim to build solidarity and drive systemic change, ultimately creating safer neighborhoods and a more just society.

“To me, it’s crucial to emphasize that victims of gun violence should never be blamed for being shot or killed. Their stories must be heard, their lives honored, and their families embraced with support.”
