2024 Day of the Dead – Dia De Los Muertos
Join us for the 2024 Día de los Muertos Exhibit, a vibrant celebration that deepens our community’s understanding of this rich and historic tradition. Partnering with southeastern Wisconsin schools, local artists, community organizations, and the Mexican Consulate in Milwaukee, the exhibit will feature authentic Ofrendas—traditional altars honoring loved ones who have passed.
The exhibit will explore the diverse ways Día de los Muertos is celebrated across regions of Mexico and delve into its origins, highlighting the cultural fusion between Aztec and Spanish traditions. Through folk art, storytelling, and immersive displays, visitors will see how this practice has evolved into a cherished reflection of heritage and identity.
Programming will also spotlight how the celebration is observed in other countries like Guatemala, where Mayan influence shapes unique interpretations of the tradition. As Día de los Muertos continues to grow in global recognition, this exhibit invites all to honor the past while embracing the vibrant culture and community spirit at its heart.
